Cold Snap!

Why is it when one day it's 50 degrees and the next day it's 60, you're like "OH MY GOODNESS IT'S SO FREAKING WARM!" and you open all the windows and doors and usher all the giant insects in to celebrate with you, but when one day it's 70 degrees and the next day it's 60 you're like "HOLY COW IT'S SO FREAKING COLD!" and you seal up and weatherproof your house and crank the heat to like 95 and smash all the bugs out of rage?

I say all that to say this: it's cold (60ish) and rainy (smells a little like fish) outside, and plus I forgot to take my cell phone to work.  So I don't have pictures from today, and it was so cloudy that it was too dark to take outdoor pictures by the time I got home.

But I also said all that to say this: did I mention that Japan has giant insects?  And not all of the giant insects are insects, some are arachnids.  That's Japanese for "spiders".  And this area in particular has some particularly large bugs because it's particularly warm and particularly Japanese.  So gracing the pages of my blog before too long should be some photos not intended for the squeamish.  I'm not sure who will take the pictures, because I don't like bugs.  I wouldn't say I'm scared of them per se (did I use that correctly?), and I really don't like killing them but I also don't like being in the same place as them so if I see one in my house I'll probably just move to a new house.  Hopefully I have some friends who will let me stay at their houses while the bugs and spiders slowly take over my apartment.

Here's something you don't see every day in Japan.  Actually, you might, depending on who you are.  But I know that I saw them at a store once and went back for them the next day and they weren't there.  So this time I saw them and bought them and made nachos that were really good.  Note: The yellow text (right center) says "Mexican Tacos Flavor" but they taste pretty much like plain nacho-cheese flavored Doritos to me.  But this store I got these at also had Fried Chicken flavored Doritos!  Why didn't I buy them? We may never know.

I just got the strangest sense of deja vu, like I've already blogged about Doritos.  If I have, then I apologize for being repetitive.  If I haven't, it must be a memory from a past life, back when "blogging" was called "oral tradition" and "Doritos" were called "Doritos X-13D Flavor Experiment".

Now here's something you DO see every day in Japan.  Actually, you might not depending on who you are.  But I see them at grocery stores nearly every day.  By them, I'm referring to individually wrapped vegetables and fruits!  Actually, so many things here are individually wrapped.  Even stuff that's already in a wrapper.  It's like packages containing packages containing packages containing packagers, and all that just for a package of plastic bags.  I haven't yet seen individually wrapped rice grains though.  I will post a picture if/when I do see that.

Whelp, that's it!  Have to go eat m'nachos.
